Avengers 2 Trailer Is Awesome
In my ongoing efforts to make absolutely certain that everyone I know is fully aware of what is going on in the world of superhero movies, here is the the Avengers 2 trailer, aka “Avengers: Age of Ultron.” Is is awesome.

Maybe you’ve seen it already. But I know from talking to folks who read DaddyTips that they expect me to use my great geeky power responsibly to disseminate information about upcoming movies that matter. In other words, superhero movies.
Without further ado, here is the trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron. (AKA Avengers 2.)

Wasn’t that cool? Don’t you want to see it, like, right now? You’ll have to wait until May 2015. To quote Weird Al Yankovic, first world problems.

How To Rotate Video in OSX (Tips)
We’re putting together our post about this year’s Crown Royal Your Hero’s Name Here 400, and needed to know how to rotate video in OSX. It’s not that difficult, but it’s also not as easy as it should be, so we thought we’d share this lil’ tech tip in case you need it.
Basically, the default free Quicktime player in current versions of OSX does not offer a Rotate Video option. For that you need to use Quicktime 7 Pro, which is not free. I bought a license years ago back when I used Windows. (Before the dark times… Before the Empire… Actually, I prefer Macs, but what the hell. Any excuse to use a quote from the late great Sir Alex Guinness as Obi-Wan Kenobi. Geek Gold Card.)
Apple’s online store lists Quicktime 7 Pro in both Mac and Windows flavors.
There are probably free ways to rotate a video in OSX — iMovie perhaps, or some open-source/freeware option. There are generally more free options available for Windows users than for iHoles such as myself. Using QT7 Pro is simply a very, very easy way to do it.
Bonus tip: if you bought a license to Quicktime 7 Pro back in the Jurassic era like I did and still have the code, you may be able to use it to unlock the software on your newer Mac. No guarantees, your mileage may vary, caveat code-enterer. But it’s worth a try.
If anyone reading this has a tip for rotating video on any operating system — OSX, Windows, Linux, BeOS, OS2/Warp, something even more obscure — please share it in the comments. It takes a village, folks.

Grown-Up Sippy Cups At Midtown Comics
These are grown-up sippy cups. Comic book character themed grown-up sippy cups. I suppose you could get one for your kid, but I think they are being marketed at adults. Two designs – Punisher and Deadpool. Here’s the Punisher model:
$11.99. Such a deal! Well, if you like that kind of thing.

Game Of Thrones 3-Eyed Raven Plush Is Creepy
Arguably the creepiest character in Game of Thrones is the 3-eyed raven. (Note: Game of Thrones refers to the TV show. The books are called A Song of Ice and Fire. Geek Gold Card, folks.) So naturally someone decided to make a plush toy out of the thing.
I don’t know what it is about the 3-eyed raven that creeps me out. Ravens, of course, are inherently creepy thanks to Edgar Allan Poe.
But this particular bird, even in the George R.R. Martin novels, gives me a serious case of the heebie-jeebies. Which is apparently the title of a song by Louis Armstrong and his Hot Five. Who knew? Here it is from YouTube:
Anyway, the bird creeps me out and there’s no way I would ever buy this toy, especially not for a kid. Although I suppose this is meant as a “collectible”. But… it’s a plush toy… of a… 3-eyed raven.
I don’t know why it bothers me. But it does. I’m sorry. If you want it, here’s a link to buy it at Midtown Comics.

This Guardians Of The Galaxy Pic Is Awesome
Captain America: The Winter Soldier hits theaters on April 4, 2014 (and apparently the toys and soundtrack listing reveal something major about the plot — I’m not looking, my hands are over my ears, meow meow meow meow, don’t spoil it for me, I’m a massive nerd, etc.), but the next big-ass Marvel superhero movie is Guardians of the Galaxy. This pic is awesome.

Check out this awesome new still from #guardiansofthegalaxy!! #starlord #drax #groot #gamora… http://t.co/GqSv7HBxso
— Wizard World (@WizardWorld) February 17, 2014
Now, who are these funky fresh folks?
Left to right: Gamora (played by Zoe Saldana), Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper; Rocket’s catchphrase in some comics is “Ha! Murdered you!”), Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt, who was also in The Lego Movie), Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel; Groot is a big walking tree who occasionally has to get into a flower pot and re-grow — not sure if they’re going to go there in this film), and Drax the Destroyer (played by Dave Bautista, who used to wrestle in the WWE , is 6′ 6″ tall, and is 45 years old).
Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to open on August 1, 2014. The trailer is supposedly coming out this week. That’s good because… well, because I’m a big nerd and I want to see the trailer. Based on the little bit of footage at the end of Thor: The Dark World, this movie looks like it has the potential to be supremely weird in best possible way.
Not to diss Captain America. I’m psyched to see it. (Geek Gold Card, folks. I mean, duh.) But Guardians goes much deeper into the Marvel Comics Universe. Two of the main characters are a talking raccoon and a walking tree, for Stan’s sake. Remember that the conventional wisdom was that Iron Man wasn’t a first-tier character in terms of name recognition among the general public (those without Geek Gold Cards), at least before the movie came out and was a huge hit. Then The Avengers movie made over a billion damn dollars worldwide. This proved (to me at least) that audiences are hungry for good movies featuring superheroes. If Guardians of the Galaxy is good, it will do well. If it’s only so-so, it will likely still do well enough because there are plenty of people like this out there:
That is a photo of a woman dressed up as The Valkyrie. Valkyrie is one of The Defenders, she’s sort of a female Thor, although that’s not entirely fair because she is very much her own character without any relation to the God of Thunder. I’m sorry, did you fall asleep? That’s cool. My point here is that there are enough ticket buyers out there like the cosplayer pictured above to keep Marvel making more movies. As I’ve said before: in the words of Martha Stewart, this is a good thing.
