Using Zombies To Teach Grammar
From someone on Facebook, a way to use zombies to teach grammar.
The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
“She was killed [by zombies.]” <—- passive
“Zombies killed [by zombies] her.” <—- active
Here’s the tweet that goes with this important tip.
I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert “by zombies” after the verb, you have passive voice.

New York Comic Con Tip (NYCC 2012)
Planning to attend New York Comic Con this year? Here are some tips to help you navigate the fun/chaos/mostly fun that is NYCC 2012.
The good folks who organize the annual event have posted a Survival Guide, which they have even made into a PDF for easy downloading. DaddyTips (that’s us) has been to NYCC every year since it began, so we have some tips of our own to share.

Tip – Clean Out Your Fridge
Here’s a simple tip about cleaning.
I decided to clean out the fridge today. I got as far as the bottom vegetable drawer.
I was going to post pictures of what I found but I think doing so would violate the Geneva convention.
The fact that these bits of organic matter were at one time vegetables is a scientific improbability that would baffle Stephen Hawking. Read more »
Tip Learned In The Bathroom
If you think about it (and you don’t have to because I did it for you) this is a DaddyTip. How so? Because it is true that water can be extremely hot. It is a state that water is capable of.
Guess What? Reading Is Good For Your Brain
Turns out that reading is good for your brain. Duh.
But you know something? It’s good when people point this out. In this case it was an item on Huffington Post.
Reading is valuable — not only for entertainment or knowledge value, but for exercising your brain.
I never used to think about that aspect of reading. Then I saw an episode of Boston Public where Denny Crane, the character played by the possibly immortal William Shatner (toupee or no toupee, the guy has a lot of energy for an 81-year-old), visits a doctor to discuss his brain decay. (I’m simplifying.) One of the doctor’s suggestions was that Mr. Crane do more activities that exercise the brain — crossword puzzles, and yes, reading more books. That little moment of television stayed with me and I now make an effort to do crossword puzzles, play word games, and yes, read more books.
But that’s about me, an adult. (An adult who loves superheroes, comic books, and cartoons, but an adult nonetheless.) How about reading and kids?

To Do: Update To Do List
To do lists are my life. I’ve tried software solutions and always go back to paper. What I’d prefer is to give the list to someone else and let them deal with it. Not gonna happen.
Instead I’ll try these suggestions from Lifehacker and the Day-Timer Blog and see if they help. Links are below.

Cool Binder Clip Tricks (Tips)
Always fun to get tips on using objects in ways other than they were intended to be used. Of these 10 cool binder clip tricks (via LifeHacker), I’ve done the following:
– Smartphone stand: I keep a binder clip or two in each of my various bags just in case I need to prop up my cellphone on a plane or in a Starbucks. Makes watching video or reading an article a more hands-free experience.
Here’s a video that seems to be the way I do it.
