Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 16GB Android Tablet $279.99 (DaddyDeal)
Humdinger of a DaddyDeal from Amazon — the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Android Tablet for just $279.99.
I’m actually a bit tempted to buy this for myself. I’m primarily an Apple product user — Macbook Pro, iPad, although I refuse to get an iPhone on principle — and it would be nice to add an Android device to the mix. My phone is a Droid 4, but it’s not a snazzy as this Samsung Android Tablet. Among the differences between Samsung’s Galaxy devices and Apple’s iPads is the ability to have two windows open at once. Why Apple hasn’t snagged this for the iPad, I have no idea.
Anyway, if you’ve been thinking about an Android Tablet, this seems to be a good price. As always, caveat buyor, your mileage may vary, and don’t blame us if you buy the thing and don’t like it.

Goalrilla Spring Trainer – Amazon Lightning Deal
Act fast or you’ll miss this great Amazon Lightning Deal on the Goalrilla Spring Trainer, a device that could help your child be a better baseball player.
Jeff says: Buy this now!
Basically the Goalrilla Spring Trainer looks like a way for your kid to practice batting without a pitcher. Which is handy. (I misread this item as Gorilla Spring Trainer, which is funnier. Maybe it’s a gorilla that pitches to your kid. That too would be handy, although messier since you’d have to feed the gorilla and clean up it’s poop.)
The regular price is $286.13, as of this writing Amazon is selling it for $149.99. That’s over 50% off. (63% to be precise. And no, I did not do the math. Amazon did it for me. Thanks Jeff!)
If you want it, here it is, come and get it. It’s a Lightning Deal, and those actually do expire quickly.

Kindle Fire Tablet Sale NOW
Amazon is once again offering a limited-time price break on their Kindle Fire Tablet line. Here’s the sale price breakdown: Kindle Fire HD for $124 (down from $139), Kindle Fire HDX for $199 (down from $229), Kindle Fire HDX 8.9″ for $339 (down from $379), and Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ for $189 (down from $269). Such a deal! These prices are only good through tomorrow, February 14, 2014.
Note: those prices are for the Kindle Fire With Special Offers, aka ads. If you want it without special offers, you have to pay a little bit more.
What’s the difference between the Kindle Fire HD and the Kindle Fire HDX? Resolution. Not the kind you make on New Year’s, the kind that makes for more pixels on a tablet screen.
For example, the Kindle Fire HD has a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 216 ppi, or 1280×800. The Kindle Fire HDX has a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 323 ppi, or 1920×1200. The HDX model also has “The fastest processor on a 7-inch tablet”, according to Amazon — “2.2GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM for fast, fluid multi-tasking, gaming, and video.” That’s FOUR CORES, people. FOUR. More cores equals better performance when you’re consuming content on your Kindle Fire.
Bottom line: as we say every time Amazon throws consumers a bone and lowers the prices on Kindles for a limited-time sale, if you’ve been thinking about buying a Kindle Fire, now is a good time because you’ll pay less money. Sale ends February 14, 2014. Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Hunger Games Trilogy eBook Only $14.99
This is a hot steaming DaddyDeal right here. The Hunger Games Trilogy, all three books, electronically delivered to your Kindle for only $14.99. That’s change from your (electronic) dollar!
I’ve enjoyed both of The Hunger Games movies so far but the books are way better. It’s not a fair comparison; the books are told from Katniss’ point of view, something that would be impossible on screen. That said, there’s a propulsive nature to the narrative as written on the page, or in this case on your own personal screen… Hmm. I’ll have to re-think that phrase, “on screen”, as it relates to book-to-movie adaptations. An eBook is, of course, on a screen. It’s just not a big movie screen. But you can watch a movie on Kindle Fire, or even a really small screen, like an iPod Classic. (I do this often when riding public transportation; usually I watch The Avengers again. And again. Have I mentioned that I really like The Avengers movie?)
Anyway, whatever. This is becoming a stream of consciousness thing and all I wanted to do was inform you that it is possible to purchase all three of Suzanne Collins’ excellent books for your Kindle at the low price of only $14.99. That’s a damn good deal right there.
