Understanding Snapchat
Do you have trouble understanding Snapchat? Yeah. Us too.
I’m trying to understand Snapchat. All the kids are into it, but it confuses me.
The latest version of Snapchat allows you to make goofy animations of your face. Here’s a video from Buzzfeed of people using… well, they’re called New Selfie Filters.
The new filters were introduced in September but I didn’t notice because I don’t use Snapchat. Mostly this is because it baffles me. That said, these animations are very easy to use and pretty funny. Think Emojis, but animated, and with your face on them. We’re all doomed, but at least we can make short video clips of ourselves puking up rainbows before the inevitable apocalypse.
Want to puke rainbows or put horns on your head? This is how to use the new Snapchat Selfie Filters.
What We’ve Figured Out So Far
First: get the latest version of the Snapchat app on your mobile device (iOS or Android).
Second: switch the camera to Selfie Mode. Usually this is a little symbol with arrows on it in the upper right corner of the screen.
Third: hold your finger over your face. Not your ACTUAL face. The image of your face on your phone or tablet. When you do this, a bunch of little images should appear at the bottom of your screen. Scroll through them until you find one that you like.
Fourth: hold down the red Record button and make your video.
Fifth: send it to someone.
Having trouble? Leave a comment and we’ll try to help. Don’t be embarrassed; it took us way longer to figure out than it should have. But that’s OK. We’re good enough, we’re smart enough, and doggone it, people like us.

Tumblr And Disney
Tumblr and Disney are, I suppose, a natural pairing. Hardcore Disney fans are obsessive, and even non-hardcore fans are at least aware of Disney tropes. So the two coming together to create Interweb flotsam are as inevitable as chocolate and peanut butter.
Tumblr is a micro-blogging platform (I use it, it’s fun) that works particularly well with images. This post, from The Lion King, is about parenting and amused me.

Don’t you have anything better to do than look at pictures of Lego Pokemon? Yes. But c’mon. Lego Pikachu is cute. Lego Gastly kind of scares me, though.

Five Year Old Sings Folsom Prison Blues
I discovered Johnny Cash somewhat late in my life. Not that my life is over, mind you. But I only started sampling the Man in Black around the time that he came out with his brilliant cover of the Nine Inch Nails song “Hurt.”
This kid, however, appears to have been exposed to Cash much earlier. Like five years old. Not only is he familiar with the music, he can sing Cash’s “Folsom Prison Blues.”
Do we really believe the little guy when he sings, “I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die”? No. But that’s OK. As Hannah points out over at Strollerderby, “After you check out little Wesley singing the Folsom Prison Blues at a coffee shop in Seattle, I think you’ll agree that this is far too awesome to be inappropriate.”
Here’s Cash doing the song himself. Watch both videos, then give me 500 words comparing and contrasting the two styles.

- More nerdy stuff from Buzzfeed: the cast of Star Wars, in a photo from a long time ago, in this galaxy. It’s Vader and Chewie without their costumes. In a suit and tie. Weird. (Buzzfeed)
