Josh Duggar, Oy Vey

We’ve never been big fans of the Duggars. I wrote a piece for about the “quiverfull” movement awhile back (can’t find the link) in which I basically said that it was a lot of nonsense and they should stop having so many kids, but if they want to have so many kids, don’t use religion as an excuse for it. Also, don’t put the kids on reality TV shows. Now, with the news that Josh Duggar had an Ashley Madison account, I’d like to keep things simple. Josh Duggar, oy vey.

Details below.

In 2013, conservative reality TV star Josh Duggar—of TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting fame—was named the executive director of the Family Research Council, a conservative lobbying group in D.C. which seeks “to champion marriage and family as the foundation of civilization, the seedbed of virtue, and the wellspring of society.” During that time, he also maintained a paid account on Ashley Madison, a web site created for the express purpose of cheating on your spouse.

Grumpy Pants Tries To Shut Down Kid’s Lemonade Stand

This of course happened in Florida. Because, you know. Florida.

Gawker points us towards an article on from the Tampa Bay Times about a 12-year-old boy with a lemonade stand. Apparently the boy’s neighbor is not happy and is trying to get the stand shut down.

(Note: We removed the embedded video because it was auto-playing and we think that’s annoying.)

This quote from Gawker was my favorite:

The Times reports that his most recent email to City Hall complained that T.J.’s lemonade stand was back for the summer, “AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!”

Yeah, North Isn’t That Bad A Name

I admit to only skimming this Gawker article about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s baby’s name, written by Tom Socca, but I agree with the premise and the parts that I read. (Sorry, I’m busy doing dad stuff.)

To sum up: North isn’t that bad a name, even if the child does use his father’s last name, which is traditional but unless the couple has told us this is the case should not be assumed. (Even though it is, because, you know, we’ve come a long way baby. Not.) If the kid does get Kanye’s surname, that would be North West. Gawker’s Tom Socca points out Ima Hogg, which is WAY worse. (One could argue that if your last name is Hogg, naming your daughter Ima is actually rather mean.)

Here’s another example. There’s a urologist named Richard Chopp, as in Dick. He specializes in vasectomies. Sells t-shirts that say “I was ‘chopped’ by the Urology Team”, according to the Internet. Still don’t believe it? Here’s another link. And a video. Read more »
