Pokémon Mini-Comic Letters to an Absent Father

The Pokémon Mini-Comic ‘Letters to an Absent Father‘ is a bit on the sad side. Written and drawn by Mare Odomo, the mini-comic is a series of letters from Pokémon majordomo Ash Ketchum to his dad (Mr. Ketchum? Is his first name Hank?).

Wired.com says that “Nobody watched the Pokémon cartoon for pointed observations around the emotional difficulties of single-parent families.” Speak for yourself!

Most of ‘Letters to an Absent Father’ is online at mareodomo.com. If you want a print copy, here are the details. The size is 4.25 inches x 4.25 inches (“Fits in your Nintendo DS cartridge case!” – cute) Each copy costs $3; for $5, the artist will “draw you a picture on the back or on the inside.” I rarely buy stuff like this; I’m trying to purchase less physical media since it takes up too much space. (Plus I’m a cheapskate.) Still, the sales pitch is clever, and the price is about what you pay for a regular comic book. Granted, those have more pages, but try getting Neal Adams to draw you something special for only two dollars! Not gonna happen.

DaddyTips Show and Tell for July 24, 2009

Is Archie Andrew hung like a horse?

  • Is Archie Andrews hung like a horse? Like, Minnesota Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe size? You have to wonder what the artist was thinking when they drew this page. (Buzzfeed)
  • More nerdy stuff from Buzzfeed: the cast of Star Wars, in a photo from a long time ago, in this galaxy. It’s Vader and Chewie without their costumes. In a suit and tie. Weird. (Buzzfeed)
  • I can accept that I don’t understand fashion. (Shocking, I know.) But $895 for a baby carrier? What’s wrong with one of the bags you get from the supermarket? (Pursuitist)

Weekly Stack – Static Shock, Batman, More

Weekly Stack – 5-20-09

19 books, which is too close to 20 for my taste. I added a couple that I shouldn’t have. Big title of the week: Herogasm, a mini series with characters from Garth Ennis’ The Boys. Here’s the stack this week: Read more »

Weekly Stack – 5/6/09

Managed to resist a few things this week, including a new New Mutants series. And some of these are one-shots, so at least I won’t feel a need to pick up issue #2. Hence the term “one-shot.” Read more »

Weekly Stack – 4-22-09

This is one of those weeks where, as I’m making the list, I say, “Another light week. That’s strange. The last couple of weeks were light as well.” Then I get the total and I say, “Huh? Can I cut anything? Oh. Well… yeah. No. Shoot.” Read more »
