How To Find The Clean Version On Spotify

I’m trying out Spotify Premium on my Sonos and so far I love it. I want my kids to have good taste in music, or at least be able to introduce them to bands that they wouldn’t otherwise experience. Regular radio — top 40 — stinks, with very few choices and far too many songs by Ke$ha. I don’t want to force my taste onto my kids, but I do want to share my musical interests with them. Spotify Premium is a good way to do this without buying every album or downloading stuff illegally. Of course, not everything I listen to is free of dirty words. I’m no prude, but sometimes I’d prefer to have the kids listen to the non-explicit version of an album. So how to find the clean version on Spotify? Read more »

Smaller Raspberry Pi Has Us All Excited About Kids And Computers Again

I’ve said before that the tiny little computer called Raspberry Pi could create a generation of tinkerers. Now there’s an even SMALLER version of the Raspberry Pi.

(Note: this photo below is of the original Raspberry Pi, not the new one. But isn’t it cool looking?)

Lovely single-board computer running Linux and...

Lovely single-board computer running Linux and capable of HD video with a price-point making it very disruptive. Seen here at TransferSummit 2011. (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

So how small is the new Raspberry Pi? It fits in a DIMM slot. In other words, it’s the size of a stick of RAM. Which is very much not big. It’s quite small. Read more »

Seriously, watch the whole thing, even though it’s a whopping 4 minutes long. Read more »

Boo Boo Car On My Big Boy Burn (Tips)

I burned my hand. It hurts. I was holding an ice pack on it but that didn’t allow me to type and I have some work to do. I looked in my freezer for a better solution. Voilà. Boo boo car on my big boy burn, held in place with three rubber bands. Since this was a new solution to an old problem, I decided to make it a DaddyTip.

image

So far it’s working reasonably well. I’m not typing my typical 90-100 words per minute (I type fast, always did) and I’m making more mistakes than usual. But I am able to type using both hands now, sans the burnt finger of course.

I’m not going to include any “related links” because most of them involve Honey Boo Boo and I refuse to involve myself with that sort of thing. Well, unless someone wants to pay me enough money. Then maybe I could get over my… what’s the word? Scruples? Integrity? Whatever.

Burns, by the way, are really annoying and painful. I do not recommend them. The way I got this one was extremely stupid. I was cooking something in the oven, removed the dish from the oven using oven mitts, then removed the oven mitts from my hands and immediately moved to remove the glass top of the extremely hot Corningware dish with my bare hands. Like I said, not too bright. So there’s another tip for you — don’t touch hot things without proper protection. You know. Something most three-year-olds already know.

Max Von Sydow Cast in Star Wars Episode VII

The cast for Star Wars Episode VII (I can almost write that without cringing — almost) has been announced. One of the merry band will be played by none other than Max Von Sydow.

Visitad el blog del Zinemaldi en dvdenlared.com

I’m a big Max Von Sydow fan. Not a fanatic, but his presence in a film lends a certain something. This comment posted by Owmyback (great username) on io9 somewhat echoes my reaction:

Am I the only one who read this and was like “Max von Sydow is still alive?”

My thought was more along the lines of, “Max Von Sydow is still alive. Cool. And he’s going to be in the next Star Wars movie. Also cool.”

io9 commenter CindyLouCthulhu (again, great username) added the following:

The Seventh Seal must have been a true story. Dude clearly beat Death at chess.

Here is the rest of the cast that was announced today on StarWars.com:

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Peter Mayhew played/will continue to play Chewbacca, Kenny Baker was/is R2D2, and Anthony Daniels played/will play C3P0. Here’s a video interview of him for your viewing pleasure:

And just for yucks, a compilation of The Best of C3P0:

So? Are we excited? Do we care? Are we becoming overwhelmed by the amount of entertainment in the world today? The answer to all of these questions is… a little bit.
