I Guess It’s NOT Too Early For Black Friday Stuff
I’m usually the guy who’s cranky and says “Grr. It’s too early for Christmas/Chanukah/Thanksgiving ads.” In this case, though, I’m wrong. Black Friday is a week from today, so it’s not too early to think about deals and stuff, if that’s your bag. Link below to ZDNet’s Black Friday guide.
We’ve collected the best Black Friday specials all in one spot to help you with your PC buying decision.

Goddammit
Really? We’re still banning books? Or are we BACK to banning books? Because “To Kill A Mockingbird” is a great book. While it is possible that the same issues/values can be learned from another book, this is a damn good one. Language makes you uncomfortable? Banning books makes ME uncomfortable.
EDIT: the book wasn’t BANNED per se. It was “removed” from the reading list. Still annoyed.
UPDATE: I read some of the responses to the story on Twitter. My replies are below.
I actually never liked To Kill a Mockingbird. Thought Atticus was paternalistic & just at the bare minimum of seeing black people as human.

Fine. As long as you aren’t saying that therefore the book shouldn’t be read. I don’t think that’s what the person is saying but if so, she misses the point. Let’s say you think this about Atticus. (I don’t but whatever.) USE THAT AS A JUMPING OFF POINT FOR DISCUSSION. If I recall correctly, Atticus’ stance was startling because of where he was in that particular era. But seriously, PLEASE disagree. Let’s talk about it.
To Kill a Mockingbird makes me VERY UNCOMFORTABLE TOO, it literally says ALL white people are racists. Not true!

Heh.
if to kill a mockingbird makes you uncomfortable you should probably be reading to kill a mockingbird.

Low hanging fruit but OK.
Progress is built on a steep incline and we backslide fast. Books like To Kill A Mockingbird are there to lift us when we need it. Like now. https://t.co/1GeBsQFKkH

I don’t know about the “lift us when we need it” stuff. But backsliding? Oh yeah.

Biloxi administrators pulled the novel from the 8th-grade curriculum after the district received complaints that some of the book’s language “makes people uncomfortable.”

NY Comic Con Will Not Watch Your Kids
In case you were wondering, NY Comic Con will not watch your kids for you. Seriously. Look.
The fact that NY Comic Con had to post this on their website means people have asked, likely multiple times. “Can you watch my kids for me while I go cosplay and run around and buy comics and stuff?” “Um, no.”
Have fun! But leave your kids at home, or be prepared to watch them yourself.
This is not a good reason to have a baby
Currently at the Top of the Charts on Reddit:
If i get my wife pregnant around next week, i will get a 2 week paternity leave during world cup next year from Showerthoughts
Read the comments. They funny.
Example:
And you’ll have a brand new alarm clock to wake you up at 3AM to watch the game, depending on what time zone you’re in.
Ha, amateurs. You just sleep at night like normal and when the wife says “it’s your turn” you roll over and act like your the heaviest sleeper in the universe. Totally unrelated to why I’m divorced, she said I didn’t listen or something.
Maybe it’s just ‘cuz my work gave me a month paid paternity leave but I loved the newborn age. They sleep like 18 hours a day. And no real complicated needs. Cuddles, food, diaper, burp, etc. It’s not like they wake up from a nightmare with an existential question like “What happens when we die? How do we know nightmares aren’t real and this is just a dream…”Admittedly even when they are sleeping all the time when they are up won’t necessarily coincide with when you may have wanted to be up, but so long as you nap when they do it’s awesome.
I miss naps..
I miss naps too.
Also, warning: some of the comments are nasty. But, you know, reddit, Internet, whatevers. There’s some good stuff too. Enjoy.
