Brett Singer Tweets for 2012-08-05

This week is Brett Singer Tweets — an Olympic commentator points out that Jordyn Wieber is “physically fit,” which was good because surely everyone watching was thinking, “Gosh, I wonder if you have to be in good physical condition to be an Olympic gymnast?” Plus! New York Jets receiver Santonio Holmes gets advice from former Jet Keyshawn Johnson, causing Jets fans to become even more depressed. Also, there were a LOT of people at BlogHer. Really. I saw pictures. Read on, gentle reader. Is that redundant? Whatever. Avanti! Read more »

It’s not just kids who have to watch out for allergies. NFL players also have to be careful.

Olympic Athlete Goes Independent, Lost 28 Family Members To War

Deadspin has a story about “Independent Olympic Athletes,” of which there are four according to Barry Petchesky’s article. This particular tidbit caught my eye.

But Marial didn’t have a country to represent. He hasn’t obtained U.S. citizenship, and while Sudan offered him the chance to compete for them, he turned them down, citing the 28 family members he lost in the war. “It’s not right for me to do that,” he said. “It’s not right for me to represent the country I refuged from.”

Always good to have perspective.

Captain America Does Gymnastics (Olympics)

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSjzd8JsVj4]

If you happen to be watching the Olympics with your children, and said children happen to be fans of superheroes, you may want to point out that Captain America does gymnastics.

The above video is from a videogame I think. My knowledge of Cap’s gymnastics training comes from reading comic books. I know that shocks you. Much like I was shocked when Read more »

Katie Holmes & Suri Feed Giraffes in NYC

As much as I dislike the fact that Katie Holmes and her daughter can’t go out in public without being photographed, this is a cute picture of Suri feeding the giraffes at the Bronx Zoo. While the actions of Ms. Holmes, Suri, and Tom Cruise do not affect my life in any way, as a parent I like seeing a famous mom and her famous kid enjoying a normal family activity. Not because they’re celebrities. Because in theory it means that they can, y’know, do normal stuff like go to the zoo without being bothered.
Then again, I’m writing about a picture of them at the zoo. So I can’t say if they were being bothered or not. Maybe the photo was taken by a particularly talented chimp instead of by a crazed paparazzi.

Brett Singer Tweets for 2012-07-29

This week is Brett Singer Tweets, it wasn’t all sports, but it was a lot of sports. Examples: radio great Max Kellerman speaks truth about Joe Paterno before everybody else does. Yankees GM Brian Cashman calls Ichiro the “reincarnation of Brett Gardner” and I feel the need to point out that Gardner isn’t dead because we Bretts need to stick together. And finally, Michael Vick “sees a potential dynasty in Philly,” which made me wonder if perhaps he meant that he saw an episode of the television show “Dynasty” while in Philly. Football does feature shoulderpads, as did “Dynasty.” Honestly, that explanation makes more sense than Vick thinking that the Eagles are a “potential dynasty” when they haven’t won a championship yet. Although I suppose he did say “potential.” Which leaves the door wide open. Avanti! Read more »

Max Kellerman Speaks Truth About Joe Paterno Statue (TMZ)

The Joe Paterno statue is coming down, and Max Kellerman tells TMZ that it’s “about time.” It’s always nice to hear someone speak the truth, especially when it’s so obvious and so few people are saying it.

The whole culture of JoePa worship has baffled me since I became aware of it. I’ve been saying for years that I believe college football is inherently corrupt. Read more »
