Ten Year Old Boy, Afraid Mom Will Hit Him (Again), Hides For Four Days

Via Kotaku, a story about a ten-year-old boy in China who spent four days at an Internet Cafe because he was afraid that if he went home his mother would hit him. Spoiler alert: they found him, he’s fine, and his mom says she won’t hit him anymore.

Why was she hitting him in the first place? Because she thought he was “addicted to video games” and his grades were less than stellar. So basically it was a case of bad parenting.

I’m unclear how a ten-year-old could spend four days in a public place and nobody called his parents. Also, the story was in the news (the article mentions that the boy read about it while he was hiding out). Wouldn’t someone have recognized him? Guess not. Happy ending though, at least as far as we know.

Obligatory Reminder That I’m Old

And a chance to mention Superman yet again.

It’s been 35 years since Superman The Movie

If I may be permitted to mix my Marvel with my DC — ’nuff said.

Well, one more thing. Here’s the trailer from Christopher Reeve’s first Superman film. It’s brings a wonderfully nerdy tear to my eye.

Laser Turrets on Military Planes Makes Us Think of Star Wars

The terrific writer Jesus Diaz penned (well, typed) an article for Gizmodo about the U.S. Military’s plans to put laser turrets on military aircraft. Jesus begins and ends with Star Wars, which we find totally appropriate.

Seriously people, I keep imagining Han Solo shouting “Great kid! Don’t get cocky!”

And we wish to add — lasers? Oy vey.

We Were Ahead Of The Curve On Lance Armstrong

DaddyTips Rant

Flashback time. We’ve never been fans of Lance Armstrong. Back in May of 2010 we wondered, “Are we done with Lance Armstrong now?” Remember when Floyd Landis accused Lance of doping? And all those folks who defended Lance? Now Lance is saying he lied.

He made his confession in a TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, which is very celebrity of him but probably not a great idea since he said under oath that he hadn’t used any performance enhancing drugs and that’s, like, perjury, according to published reports.

Here’s one of the reporters he lied to, ESPN’s Rick Reilly, talking about how he’s none too happy with the former cyclist.

This is the full interview if you like that kind of thing.

I don’t need to watch it. Maybe eventually I’ll look at a clip of the important part. For now it’s enough to say that we were ahead of the curve in terms of the “Lance Armstrong is a douche” story.

Photos From Unlicensed World of Warcraft Theme Park in China (Links)

Here is a link to photos of a totally unlicensed World of Warcraft theme park in China, courtesy of a Reddit user.

An article on IGN.com says the park is “called Joyland, and Forbes reports that it cost $48 million to build. And it is entirely, audaciously illegal, as a copyright violation.”

That’s kind of amazing if you think about it, Read more »

Sometimes You Have To Ask A Parent

From a disturbing article about the goings on in a town with very few women comes an amusing comment. Note: the story itself is not amusing. At all. This comment, however, is.
