New Green Arrow TV Show Drops Green, Keeps Arrow
Possible good news for those of us who miss having a live action superhero TV show to watch. The CW, the network formerly known as WB and once the airer of the not-quite-Superman series ‘Smallville’, has picked up the pilot for ‘Arrow’, which features a main character not entirely unlike Green Arrow. We know that he’s an archer named Oliver Queen who fights crime using a bow and feathered shafts he stores in a quiver. What’s not clear to me is whether or not he’s green.
Published reports say with certainty that ‘Arrow’ is not a spinoff of ‘Smallville’, which I knew but think is silly. Assuming they could get the actors to sign on, it would have been fairly organic to have Chloe and Ollie move to Star City and do their thing. Would anyone watch it? Sure, if it was any good.
Comic Book Resources tells us that ‘Arrow’ is set in Starling City and his girlfriend is Laurel Lance, rather than Star City and Dinah Lance the way it is in the comics. It’s possible that these are details from some iteration of Green Arrow I’m unfamiliar with, but I doubt it. Odds are it’s another caes of “let’s change this!” that seems to occur all too often with superhero-to-screen adaptations.
Hopefully the show won’t stink. I miss having a new live-action superhero TV show to watch every week. It’s a first-world problem, but a problem nonetheless.
