Even in the most basic version of the Superman story, his father Jor-El put him in a rocket to Earth by himself when he was a baby. On “Smallville“, he was much more of a prick, playing all sorts of mind games from the grave (or more specifically from the Fortress of Solitude). Perhaps by burning Jimmy’s gift, Kal-El is really just acting out against his own troubled upbringing.
