Father and Son Made Millions Illegally Dumping Chicken Parts

Chicken

Mmmm... Chicken...

This headline is literally what the story is about. A father and son made millions illegally dumping chicken parts.

I don’t know what to say about that. But I couldn’t let it go unmentioned.

According to wistv.com, Dwayne Budden of Sumter County, South Carolina pleaded guilty to mail fraud after being caught dumping chicken parts on family land instead of at a legal dump site. Budden did this with his father, Hazel. It’s not clear from reading the story why the father hasn’t been charged. Pure speculation: the son is taking the fall, which would be a nice thing for him to do.

As for the crime itself: “Prosecutors say for five years the father-son duo created fake Lee County landfill invoices and instead of legally dumping the chicken parts they illegally dumped them on family land.”

And more:

“What Dwayne Budden had been doing was, they were going out, they would take excess chicken parts from the factory and then they would just dump it into holes on the family land and cover them over,” said [Federal prosecutor Winston] Holliday.

How much did they make over a five-year period? $2.4 million, according to wistv.com. That ain’t chicken feed. (Couldn’t resist.)
