Weekly Stack – 5-20-09

19 books, which is too close to 20 for my taste. I added a couple that I shouldn’t have. Big title of the week: Herogasm, a mini series with characters from Garth Ennis’ The Boys. Here’s the stack this week:

The BoysDad’s Stack:

Batman Battle For The Cowl #3: this is shaping up to be more clear than Batman RIP, which isn’t saying much.
Green Arrow Black Canary #20: the last issue of this one had a drawing that I found sexually arousing. That hasn’t happened in a long time. I need help.
Outsiders Vol 4 #18: Still a good read, despite the presence of Owlman.
Superman Batman #60: Don’t usually buy this title but the description sounded fun.
Vigilante Vol 3 #6 (Deathtrap Part 5): Not a title I’m interested in but it’s part of the current Titans/Teen Titans storyline, which I’ve been enjoying.
Star Trek Alien Spotlight Romulans: I almost skipped this one and bought the electronic version; I recently read Stark Trek: Countdown on my iPod Touch and enjoyed it. (The comics and the experience of reading them electronically.) But I caved. I still have that nerdy glow from seeing the new movie.
Captain America Vol 5 #50: OMG! Big revelations are promised! Oh please. What are they going to do, bring Steve Rogers back to life?
Dark Reign Fantastic Four #3: I can’t remember if I bought #2 or not. I sort of liked issue #1, which had Reed Richards doing one of his “I know the answer to all problems, but by solving them I will screw up something else, like an entire planet somewhere.”
Fantastic Four Vol 3 #566: This title has been a big disappointment lately. It’s just not working, despite a superstar creative team.
Hulk Vol 2 #12: I’m almost at the point where I’m done with Hulk. It’s just getting too stupid. Jeph Loeb needs to drink less Red Bull and more herbal tea. Dude. RELAX.
Marvel Mystery Comics #1 70th Anniversary Special: These have been fun so far, although paying $3.99 for them is steep.
Punisher Vol 7 #5: Punisher has been reliably good since I started buying comics regularly again a couple of years ago.
Thunderbolts #132: Still liking this. There’s something about a group of psychotic bad guys working as a team that I find amusing.
Warriors Official Movie Adaptation #2: Issue #1 wasn’t very good but I’m giving it another chance.
Boys Herogasm #1: This is the one I’m looking forward to the most this week. By far. The Boys is the best comic book out there right now. If you haven’t read it, pick up the trade paperbacks and then some back issues. Now. Do it. DO IT!

Son’s stack:

Tiny Titans #16: I didn’t realize this but apparently the first trade edition of this title made the New York Times’ bestseller list. Makes sense, it’s a fun book. My son loves it.
Marvel Adventures Avengers #36
Amazing Spider-Man Family #6: Mostly reprints but when you’re eight, there’s lots you haven’t read so that’s fine.
Disney Pixars Incredibles Family Matters #2: I think my son liked issue #1. If not it goes on eBay.
