Unattractive British Woman Sings Well

Watch this. Then I’ll tell you why we’re all supposed to think it’s cool.

Here’s the deal. Simon Cowell and the rest of his dipshit judges think that Ms. Boyle will be lousy because she doesn’t look like what they think of as a star. Then she sings a Broadway tune and blows the roof off the place. They are schooled. They vote yes, which I guess means she can come back on the show.

And it’s great for her. I hope she gets a recording contract or a part in a Broadway/West End show and has a great time doing it. Makes a million damn dollars. (Or pounds, or euros, or whatever.) Seriously. I wish her well.

But the audience, and the judges. What a bunch of sanctimonious buttheads. The blonde woman, Amanda Holden (who is kinda hot, for what that’s worth), seemed the least annoying until she pulled out the “everyone was against you” shit. Who knows what this woman’s life is like. Certainly not these three numbnuts.

And while it’s nice to have expectations dashed, that doesn’t mean that the reason they had those expectations is gone. The audience (shown in reaction shots), Cowell, the other two judges. You want to create stars based on how they look on TV. That’s the goal of ‘American Idol’ and the rest of these stupid shows. So to suddenly pretend otherwise is disingenuous.

Yeah yeah, I know, it’s just a TV show. They still piss me off.

All the best to Ms. Boyle, though. Hope she makes a big pile of dough and has a good life.

I agree. She looked unlike what they perceive as a “star” therefore she was automatically assumed to be without talent. When she said she was 47, did you see the flinch from Cowell? Clearly in his mind he thought, “Too old to be any good.”

It’s about time the damn world realized that talent and beauty are not necessarily connected, nor are talent and youth. (Which isn’t to say they can’t be, but what is the world missing by only looking for that? LOTS.)

Thank you! It’s “Britain’s Got Talent” not “Simon Has Bug Up His Butt.” I think its great that everyone is excited about Susan Boyle and her big voice but there’s a bigger issue of everyone on television acting like jerkwads.
