Why are people sending text messages saying that Bernie Mac is dead?

First of all, most news reports say that he’s not. But even if he was — what kind of weirdo sends ‘Bernie Mac is dead’ text message spam?

On another note, people seem to LOVE them some Bernie Mac. I always thought he was pretty funny, and certainly hope he gets well (although I think what he has is pretty rare and kind of serious). But I admit I never thought about him much. Judging by this post on Famecrawler, there are a lot of people who are big Bernie Mac fans, and take the probably-premature news of his demise very seriously.
